How Search Engines treat the trailing slash in URLs?

    They are actually the same because you more than probably are referring to the case of using index.php files that would be loading from inside some web folders and in both cases, search engines will consider them as the second type as you have mentioned, even if you do not place the trailing slash and it's no problem for the search engines because all the blogs are already using this format for creating web pages Urls.
