    hi all,

as a new member i added some of my sites in my profile but soon removed it after few senior members suggested me saying that someone can copy your ideas and site. thanks to all those guys. I was just wondering if any of you had any such problem before.

thanks keith , yes i came across creative common few days back and already registered my sites there. But what can u do if someone copy your idea or use ur design with little bit changes. even if they remove when u ask them to, the damage would have already been done.
i say better safe than sorry.

You are going to have to market your site and get visitors. Don't you think some can copy it then?

The "positive" you get from signatures outweighs the "negative" that can happen.

I have to partually disagree. For most run of the mill sites then it is better to advertise it in your sig here. However if your idea is different and unique then it is a really bad idea to advertise it here.
Most people here have the technical skills to copy it and most people are always out for ideas.
Advertising the site elsewhere still means you can be copied, but you are alot less likely to have someone with the skills to copy it.

Thanks a lot for sharing your thought with us Bryce. After geting so confused about this whole topic, I can only say that this topic needs some serious discussion. Maybe some "old guys" can put some light on the whole issue unless they are too busy blocking someone....(just kidding... please don't block me)

I doubt anyone will copy it, but if your are worry don't post your website here, people here can copy it, and promote it better than you can.

You can't stop ppl from copying your site. However, if you bark around how you make 200 buck a day.you should be worry...(unless it is established site that isn't build on niche)

I think you can post your site url here, just make sure that you don't mention how much (if you're making a killing) the site is making or results you getting

    Perhaps an example will help...

Anyone can buy the vBulletin forum and slap on the green template that is used at DigitalPoint. However, they will be never by successful because they do not have the existing reputation, mangement, links, community and much more that digitalpoint provides... these are unseen qualities that transcend this website.

There is more to a website than a domain name + content pages... much more...

people can steal your site information from finding your site in sigs, search engines, link exchanges, and anywhere else your site is listed..Might as well throw it in there for the extra hits

How can you make the assumption that he cannot promote his site as well as the members here?

oh, I meant if people here copy it, they know how to promote it very well, maybe even better than him. Not saying that he doesn't know how to promote it well.
