Hey How important is Pr in relation to how your site performs in google? I heard its all about backlinks, but is this really true? Thanks in advance
yes, it is all about backlinks. not just quantity but also quality. that being said, visible PR is rarely updated, and might not be the best way to determine how decent a site is. particularly if it's new.
PR is an indicator to the quality and quantity of BLs. Good PR is a crucial element in getting good rankings.
I use PR to rate myself; if my site has a good PR I know that I am doing something right. It means that others are linking to my site. It also means that Google hasn’t found too much wrong with it. Some say that PR is just an eye candy and that it serves little purpose. But I know that all good website have a good PR, so that’s what I use as a yardstick It is just another tool to achieve a good, successful, website. FFMG
Thanks for the feedback I was just wondering - when you said 'quality backlinks' What exactly do you mean by this?? Cheers
I think the key here is to focus on backlinks and not worry about the site PR. If you get lots of backlinks with appropriate anchor text from sites that also have lots of links to them, then you will be ranked well. PR can be used as a yardstick so to speak to determine how well you are doing, but I believe it is more insightful to focus on the backlinks.
PR is extremely important. Try very hard to have quality backlinks for your first PR. It sets the mood for your site in the future.
PR has little, if any value, if the PR doesn't come from backlinks relevant to your site. If you buy a high PR link from a site that isn't related to what you site does, it may increase your PR, but will not help you in search rankings. The only good buying a high PR link, from a non-sector related site, is that it can help you with link exchanges since many webmasters will look at your PR. PR is updated internally several times a month, the PR you see on the toolbar is only updated about every 3 months. By the time the toolbar PR is updated, your increased PR has already been factored into the SERPS so you are not likely to see an increase in rankings when the toolbar updates. Focus on getting backlinks from sites that are related to yours. PR is also divided between the outgoing links on a page, so it's much better to have a backlink from a site with only 5 outgoing links rather than 20- everything else being equal.
Ah Ok thats cool, So if I want to get backlinks for my sites, where could I get them from? Is it better to buy or what!?? Cheers
I have to agree 100% with mjewel. If your looking for lnks you can try free directories, paid directories, exchanging links with related sites and writing an article.
You don’t really need to buy links. One good way is to find website that are related to yours. For example, if you deal in anvils go around and look for good anvils websites. Then ask them if they would be willing to do reciprocal link exchanges. That is, you put up their link and they do the same on their site. Try and ask sites that are one or two PR above you, they will probably say no, but it won’t hurt to ask. If you buy a link, make sure that it is still fairly related to your business otherwise it won’t help as much. FFMG
Yea send a firendly email askign to exchange links. PUt a link of thier site first on your page and then they may do the same for you. Otherwise, remove the link.
Just a PR question. I have a free guitar lessons site and I used to have PR4. Even after the "Jagger" (was that the name) update it remained at PR4 but last month it dropped to PR0. Is there a reason for this? I haven't requested or exchanged links at all for ages!
