How reliable is browser language for country targetting?

    I have started varying my presentation by country. I set content to be US if I see the browser language setting set as en-us, all other visitors get non-US material.

    How reliable will this be? Does IE come with en-us as default or is it set by based on download server or by location during install? Is 50%, 90% reliaiable??

    Less than 50% I think. Me for example - I've got set only en-us language in all my browsers and I'm not from USA... Howeva, I might be wrong :)

    Neither American living abroad nor set that in preferences :) I'm a linux user so I can download apps via yum or apt - with default preferences (en-us language among other things). I know, my situation is quite specific but many of my friends do the same on M$ systems - it's good for foreigners, we can practise our english :)

    Same here. I always run en-us and I'm in Denmark. Running da-dk I get some weird translations, especially of technical terms and I'd rather avoid having to translate them back to something I can understand :)
