    Hey guys!

How relevant do you consider a domain name in your SEO strategy? Now, i have come across various instances where no website has keywords in their domain name and yet they are on the first page. Shoot in your views!

a domain name is probably the easiest and most effective way to get SEO juice - but it only becomes useful once you add relevant content to a site and getting backlinks

Domain name matters very little. Most important thing is backlinks. Good luck.

Five years ago, an exact match domain for a search term would be a huge positive for SEO. These days, much less emphasis is put on keywords being present within the domain, but it certainly still has an effect. Bottom line- if you can, include your main keyword when registering a domain.

Domain names has nothing or just a little to do with the success of a website but backlinks highly affect. Just look at (say Apple) as it is more likely resembles with the fruit name but actually a popular tech company.

Domain name does play a key role in your rank, but this does not mean it plays the entire role. If you still build high quality content you will be able to rank for the same terms as if you picked a relevant domain name. Obviously, you should be trying to pick a quality name as it makes your job as a webmaster much easier.

Thanks for your comments guys! Now for instance, you come across a fancy domain name and you an option to choose a keyword based domain ( consider that domain name doesn't entirely contain the keywords), which one is best option to go with? Build a brand with fancy name and get going? Or use the keyword rich domain?

It used to be a lot more, but less so now. Google changing this is really screwing a lot of domain squatters/investors. I think URL is all that matters. With that said I have My keywords in all my domains

I would say start with the domain with the keywords in it. It will be easier to rank. Then purchase the other domain if you have not already, but I would purchase both at the same time. You can then provide high quality back links to your new site with the fancy domain.

Sounds good to me! Thanks for the reply vimier! And don't you think the other way round would also work? Adding the keyword rich domain to the fancy domain?

Now it does not have much importance in seo, but after all it works as a address of your site. its better if you use most targeted keyword in your domain. and if you want to buy exist domain then do pay attention on the age of domain. older domain will get more advantage than new domain.

If your domain name is your site's topic based then it can be used as a master keyword.

A domain name is one onpage factor, but it's far better to create a unique company name, and then create product specific landing pages. Rather than creating a unique domain for each product / keyword.

Domain name in keyword : A hot question indeed.

I am not from google, but speaking from experience, For mid and long tail keywords domain name with exact match keywords takes less time to rank for. Even after new updates this thing works. No matter you search for "Piano lessons" or "hostgator discount coupon" you can find keyword domains are on top.. these are most of the time small few pages websites.

However when talking about an authority website, when your website really have value in eyes of search engines, keyword in domain is not required. NO wonder if you see amezon and youtube before a keyword based domain for particular search query.

So, for me. Evaluate what type of website i m gonna build. Whether its for brand or solely a money page. What do i expect from this website in future these things decides whether I want keyword in domain or not.

IF its on a board topic, putting tech or online etc word does not make it brandable, instead choosing something brandable makes more sense. IF it is niche related i dont mind going with EMD or keyword rich domain.

ALl parts of a body makes a perfect man, so as in SEO. ALl parts of the website defines its ranking and domain name is one of the organs.
