I know that having your website in your signature on dofollow forums can increase backlinks, but does it matter if the forum you post on is relevant to your site? Let's say I have a website about comic books. Will the backlinks I get from signatures in comic book forums, video game forums, seo forums, and health forums all count equally or would only the signatures from the comic book forum count and the others would hurt me?
Links from forums give very little if any help in the SERPS. The best benefit you will get is from people clicking the SIG links to see what your website is all about. Back in the day... OK... well like 4-5 years ago forum SIG links helped but that has been the case for sometime now.
I agree with smindsrt, they help but not that much. However, you can still get a lot of traffic if people in the forums visit your links.
Simply do a google search for a forum in your category, obviously the first page results will be the best. I hope you are not looking to see results from forums posts though.
It needs to be relevant, but with 40+ external links, your link wont do much. If its not relevant then no point.
