Hi, I am planning to make a website with keyword in domain name but the problem is that .com, .net and .org are not available for that 2 words keyword (with hyphens and without). .info is available for my choice. So my question is that how much powerful .info domain in compare with other TLDs? Will it take same time in promotion or it would take more time? My website is not services or products related. Give some expert advice. Thanks,
It may be rather difficult to get people to visit your website when someone else owns the same domain name except with a more popular TLD like .com, I would recommend picking another name.
[h=2]Domain Extension Meanings[/h] Below you'll find some of the more popular domain extensions and the domain extension meaning. .COM (Commercial) - Generally intended for commercial use. By far the most recognized domain name extension. .NET (Network) - This was originally intended for network oriented sites such as internet service providers. This definitely isn't the case any longer. People will register .NET domains for commercial use, generally if the .COM extension isn't available or if they'd like to protect their main .COM domain by registering all available extensions. .ORG (Organization) - This domain extension was originally intended for non-profit or trade organizations. Again, this is no longer the case and is generally registered by anyone looking to protect their main domain by registering all available domain extensions or simply because a better extension isn't available for registration. .BIZ (Business) .INFO (Informational) - This gTLD is generally used as an extension for informational websites. I believe that other than .COM, .NET & .ORG, it's the most popular domain extension used. If you are developing an informational website it's definitely a domain extension that I'd register.
Thanks for the advice. Thanks I already know the meanings but i want to know how .info powerful in terms of promotion. Can it give tough fight with .com .net & .org or it will stay away a mile?
.info domains are great to use as customer service links or for secondary domains but I never use them for a primary domain. Even if they do rank, the say "Cheap".
It doesn't matter of using .info domain name compare to others like .net, .org,.biz because all of it are still TLD domains. Once .com been taken , people will looking for other TLD domain extension. If it possible u may try to get country domain names which would be the best to target the specific country.
Yes.. It's does't matter what you are using, but you need to think about the business of your website. If you want to start a business or providing services through your website, it would be better to choose other domain which includes .com, .org, .net ect. .info is nothing but informational site. Many people will use this domains for blogging and share there knowledge. So take a domain depends on your planing.
It's not an extension what makes powerful a domain but the whole name including the extension. There are very good INFO domain names that can be considered powerful, as there are many COMs that are more likely weak. However in terms of preferences, dot COMs will come first and INFO are usually positioned in the fourth or fifth place.
I prefer to use .com domain by adding dash or adding some letter such as "my", etc (for example mykeyword.com)
Still living in 1990's eh? There are a lot of TLD's to choose from these days.. .asia, .mobi, .tv, .xxx, .co etc..
Mate it doesn't matter at all. I have many .info websites which out-ranked it competitors to rank first page on google/bing and yahoo. It all depends on how well you DO YOUR SEO. Some know .info domains/websites have sold for over 100k USD.
comon I am using .Info domain extension for my hosting as well. I don't even care the ranking yet there is huge traffic in my site. I rather recommend you to have a great and unique content for the site. Be outstanding
.info is ok - no problem unless you are trying to brand a product - if it's an informational or news related website go for .info
