Wordpress is an old and powerful domain that gets visited by search engine spiders very often so your content can get indexed within hours. I guess you can rank for long tail phrases very quickly simply through the trust that is associated with being hosted on .wordpress.com

    Six hours!!
There was time when people used to wait for weeks together to get indexed by google. Thanks to the ping facility of wordpress blogs you get indexed much faster in google now. But you need to give it couple of days at least if this is a new blog. Google might have already crawled your site. But a new site may appear in the index only after few days.

Once you get indexed, you blog posts should get indexed fairly faster if you update your site on a regular basis.

I haven't messed with word press much yet, but I intend to. Everywhere I look it's wordpress. These wordpress sites are all over google, they are indexed fast, and many of them I notice are ranked very well in terms of google pr. Just for this alone I am very tempted to set one up soon.

With billions of sites to crawl, don't expect to indexed so easily, there is only few cases that are indexed and showed on results after few hours.

Six hours is not a long time. It can be quick but give it a few days.

What I meant is that once the blog is established my posts get indexed in literally an hour or 2. when the site was brand new it took about 4-5 days to get indexed.

WordPress is SEO friendly. Just set up "pretty" permalinks on your blog to include your post name, write keyword rich articles and write them regularly, add a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools and work on building links to your blog. This should take care of everything...

This is all crap. There is no SEO in wordpress.

The only SEO in wordpress there is, is making you create content faster.

    Good luck.

Nope, this is not true. There's solid evidence showing that Google is, somehow, biased towards website that's created in WordPress's blog styles. WordPress blogs are normally immune towards sandbox trapping and tend to rank high easily on long tail keywords.
