OK, ".com" have there universal appeal but since almost all the sensible two word .com's are taken for my key phrase and I am finding a good domain with .US domain and since my target audience is only US citizens, so should I go with ".us" domain instead of .com ?

I just want to know how much comfortable ppl feel to type .US domain there ? becasue the last thing I want is ppl typing mydomain.com instead of mydomain.us for me

Most people in the US will still assume its a .com over a .us

Now if you can buy .com and .us then get them both and use .us (dont make any differance in the se's)

I use .us for all/most of my sites and they seem to be doing fine.

How many users 'type in' domains anyway? Links and search results are going to drive most of your traffic. Unless you're in the bumper sticker business...

.US is touted as next to .COM

typein visitors are scarce...go for .US if you like

    They are right,

all names that would get natural typein's are gone (well most of them)

Go for .US it's a good bet it'l gain value faster then any other tld/cctld

People in the US typically don't type in the country-code. We automatically type in the .com instinctively.

:) a bit too late I guess for me as I already got the domain http://www.boat-dealers.us and currently building a site on it. Will keep this thing in mind in the future.

I have a couple of domains on boats and fishing :)
and some of my .us domains are having good SERPS so i would never care to worry about the extensions till we get the results.

I don't think anyone was saying that .us are ranked any different then .com - The onyl point made from the beggining was if you are having americans type in the domain (either by advertising or because they liked the site but didn't add it to their favourites so they try to find it again) they will generally go the the .com first.

That is why the .com is ALWAYS preffered over the .us...It doesn't mean it doesn't work, it just means its preffered if available.

I think us domain names will be popular - getting a good dot com domain is very hard so the us will win some ground... same with the eu in Europe.
In my opinion in a short period of time we will be talking about top level domain for dot com, dot us and dot eu.

check out all the 5 number zip codes.

www.90210.us <<< all zips in the us are now developed (i think they are or most of them are)

    That must tell you something.

Thats good news for those of us who "collect" .us domains.

.us is like any other ccTLD- its always going to lose some of its traffic to the .com, because .com is so much better established, but us citizens DO type .us, I know of many .us names with good type-in traffic. I personally don't think .us ias quite as strong for the country as a .co.uk is for the uk, or a .de for germany, but its certainly a well established country specific extention and I wouldn't have any qualms about going for one if the name is better than any available in the .com. I have a domain suggester tool that can help find good domains relating to specific keywords, if you, or anyone else is interested pm me.

What kind of .us are generating type-in traffic for you? Not specific examples if you don't want to share, but like three worders, or what?

I have a couple 3 leeter .us names getting some type in traffic.

Also have state specific constrtuction/real estate related names a couple uniques a day so it's a start. mainly 2 worders.
