DMOZ is notorious for being difficult to communicate with... as they really don't give you any information about WHY they may not have included you... or even whether or not you were reviewed yet.

However, I've heard that repeat submitting is not a good idea.

My advice, be patient, make sure your site is good, work on other aspects of your site and promotion of it, and in another six months, try again.

my site was listed in DMOz after submit in 2 week without pay anything because before i submitted I 'hv seen already that there are no website in this category which the same content as my site was listed already. Because it is very difficult if there are one or two site , which the same or nealy the same content with your site, was listed category already

Julian will be back soon. Today is the day he cruises the streets doing "field research" for his escort sites.

I've listed sites that were submitted longer ago than that, but all submissions were pretty well lost just before Christmas last year, so IF you submitted before that AND have NOT done so since, its a good idea to submit ONCE.

If you look around the directory you will see that your site will fit into two or more categories so check the date at the bottom of the page. Of the categories that are valid for your site submit to the most recently updated and submit to a regional site if your site is regional in some way. I have a tool that can help find the categories that show signs of life.

If there is absolutely only one category and your site is not regional and listings aren't being added, you may be out of luck.

I dunno... maybe Anonymously will get to it in another two years or so.

Sites that have sat in the queue longer then two years and you've recently claimed that all categories have editors? *shakes head* Such empty promises...

Having active editors, does not mean that all sites submitted to all categories are all reviewed. Some editors do not look at all at submissions, how does the tool help in that situation?

Find the right category in topical and if local based in regional and submit, maybe it will be reviewed, maybe not, perhaps the cat is growing, maybe not all or at all from submissions. Editors edit in the way they wish, sorry if that displeases a few webmasters who probably have spammy sites they want to get listed, but it does please the directory that they offer their time, free and usually with great skill, and do well what they are trained to do, edit.

You can always buy one from nebuchadrezzar but his prices are expensive so you can get it cheaper from scriptlance.

Don't buy DMOZ link from DMOZ editor, nebuchadrezzar, scriptlance is cheaper. :D

I guess it does not, and wont till the coder of the tool can prompt editors to start checking their cats on a regular basis that is anything shorter then once every two years.

While you may not cater to the webmaster you MUST understand that every site you list was created by one, and if you own a page yourself, then you are one yourself.

If you have a submission form, then use it. If it's a problem, then petition to have it removed. As long as it's there, then expect it to be used. As long as there is a queue that your end users can access, then by all means use it. If you do not, then you are not true to the directory...and if you clear sites that have sat there for two years or more, then maybe this tool is JUST was has been needed to take DMOZ to the next step.

In the end, it's the 751,000 editors that make the directory what is today, and as a spokesman for the project you show us just what we are dealing with. I mean, you yourself said you included a site that has sat in queue for OVER TWO YEARS...

    Thank you.

Will you admit that the probability of getting listed goes up by submitting to a category with some signs of activity rather than one with no signs of life? And don't make the dumb argument that it doesn't guarantee anything because that is not what it is supposed to do. If I say which batter would you want hitting when the baseball game is on the line, a batter that bats with an average of .220 or one with an average of .350? A very dumb response would be well the .350 batter doesn't guarantee....

BTW, what is the "right" category for slashdot.org?

Nope, one of my categories is frequently edited, but you could still wait months to get listed, the next category to it has little activity, but few submissions, but you are likely to get listed more quickly because of the few submissions.

If I get to look at slashdot.org when it is not a trick question and has been offered to a category I am editing, if I do edit in it, then will make that decision.

If the reason sites sit in your category for months even though you are editing is for petty or emotional reasons you are part of the problem.

slashdot.org is listed in over 300 categories which makes the point their is no right category.

Sorry, if ever we are foolish enough to let you edit, God forbid, then perhaps you might see that sometimes looking at a list of submissions, one or two stand out as obviously trying to find the right category and obviously trying to offer a description similar to the ones around in that category. So they get looked at. Not petty or emotional, just the best use of my editing time.

I, at least am part of the solution, I review sites and list them, its idiots like you who want to take pot shots at people who give their spare time whilst doing sweet fanny adams that are the real problem. Button it and be grateful that people are willing to give their time.

But its also my time, given freely so I will do in it as I please and sorry if that don't please you,. but frankly I don't give a sh.

    Lol @ the bolded parts

Though if you truly wanted to utilize your time to help the directory, log out of Digital Point, and into the Internal Forums and get the changes needed to actually make it the best.

The BIGGEST is not good enough. Not when it's the biggest because it's got THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of spam sites, CNN news clips, and automated Topix links. To accent those there is still a fair portion of gambling, pharmacy, real estate, and ringtone sites.

So I applaud you for volunteering to assist in the promotion of child porn and penis enlargement schemes, maybe the two go hand in hand, I don't really know, I've not really cared about either...

But please, do not call people idiots because they do not think that the FILTH still within the ODP is not up to par, and please, don't call people idiots because they find something wrong with sites sitting in queue for over two years... as explain the logic in a way that actually justifies that being "quality".

And by the way, maybe people are taking pot shots at you because you are calling them idiots
