    Hi,

Just a quick question - How old do you have to be to own a links directory and do you need a license to run one or anything like that?

    Thanks,
    Jake.

There are no age limits - why ?

Some age limits might apply if you would need a business license, or a paypal account, etc.

I guess most youngsters just overcome that by doing business on their parents license/account.

:/ from what I know, there's no limit on what age you have to be to run a directory
unless you mean like a phone directory like 118 118
then yea, there probably are limitations

There is no legal minimum age but if you are still considered a minor (under 16 in most countries but can be under 18 in certain circumstances) then you cannot be legally bound by a contract but the other party can be.

In theory then if a 13 year old set up a directory charging £100 for listings they could take the money and then not add the business to the directory and the business could not recover their £100 but the police could charge you with fraud (so I am not advocating doing this) and as such whilst you could establish the site at any age some companies/ people arent going to want to do business with you because of the risk element.

That said and done, there is a legal requirement in the UK to give your official legal status so unless you established a LTD/ LLP/ PLC for the site then you would have to state on documents, T&Cs etc that it is Your Name t/a Your Site's Name but no requirement as far as I am aware to warn people that your age means only they will be bound by the contract
