so i have a website, www.freelancerstore.com with projects posted every day. how often should i update the google site map? do i submit this to google somehow?
I would update the sitemap everytime a new web page is added, this is just how I do things. Just rebuild a sitemap everyday.
are there automatic sitemaps that generate a new sitemap and can place it right on your site everyday?
If you go into Google Webmaster Tools, there is an option to add your site and then add a sitemap link. Once its in there you can click a button to "resubmit" it. Some sitemap scripts and programs also have an option to "ping" Google after creation. I used to do that, but in the Webmaster Tools it tells you when the last time Google accessed your map. If it's often, then I'd say just create your map daily and let them get it when they get around to getting it. If you're creating content on a daily basis and have a frequently changing sitemap, I think they'll catch on and grab it more often. Something similar happened to me with one of my sites and I rarely "ping" them myself anymore because they usually get it themselves every 24-48 hours after it's been updated with new stuff.
Can you direct me to a place that either offers this service or a place that explains how to do this? I have always wanted to do this but I do not know how to go about it.
Creating a sitemap.xml is just to let the search engine know that you have updated your contents. Hence it would be wise to update the sitemap every time you update your content. There are some premium services available, if you find the job of updating your sitemap daily a tedious one.
some boards like vbulletin offerer mod. like Automatically sitemap generator and they posts automatically Though you can try to setup schedule tasks
Submit as your content is updated. Use robots.txt, add the following to your robots.txt: Sitemap: [your_sitemap_url] Or everyday submit to search engines supporting xml sitemaps with this url: _http://www.sitemapwriter.com/notify.php?crawler=all&url=[sitemap_url]
