Hi, I have a plugin on a couple of my sites that sends my sitemap to Google, MSN and Yahoo, how often should I hit the button to submit it?

I never submit to Google - let them download it when they want. Otherwise it looks like you're trying too hard. If you constantly add new content (rule #1, right?) then Google will download the sitemap more frequently.

As for Yahoo! I submit every couple of months thru Site Explorer. As for MSN, well who really cares?

Haha, good post. Very well understood. I don't know if this had any effect, but each time I updated the site, I would submit the site map, I had 1200 links indexed in google last month, and now im down to 600... Could this be why? With me constantly sending my sitemap?

I don't think they'd penalize you for it. My thinking has always been this: Get quality inbound links and add fresh content non-stop. You can get away with alot if you just do those two things. ;)

I've been trying a couple of things with MSN and none seems to work :( I have 4 pages indexed by MSN while most of the other pages are indexed by Yahoo and Google. 100+

Does anyone truly know how MSN goes about their indexing structure?

Send your sitemap when there are changes, no need to when there aren't, and if your site changes a LOT you won't need to worry about submitting often as the Googlebot'll be showing it a lot of love anyway.

when ever you make major changes in your website at that time you have resubmit the sitemap.so that search engine will update those details quickly.

If there changes on your sites, it's necessary for you to resubmit the site map. From my experiences Googlebot is crawling the sites extremely frequently; maybe even several times per day so all new content will be indexed very quickly.

If you have changes, I would submit it. The search engines are not going to penalize you for letting them know about updates. If you don't have changes, don't waste your time resubmitting the same old sitemap. It won't hurt, but it won't help.

Thanks! I have the same idea with you. Waste time resubmitting the same old sitemap if there is no change. Goodluk^..^

Whenever Upload content/pages or do some updates to website, never forget to update/upload sitemap. Otherwise no need to update sitemap while you are not updating site.
