According to your opinion, how often your website should be updated? What website updates are the most important for a website? What advices would you provide for people who are going to update a website?

Well, when your site needs to be updated is determined best by you, and it should be an improvement for the users of the website. It also depends on your budget because you need to hire someone to create the new design. Best way to update would be to see what parts of the site are the users using most. If you use Google Analytics then you can see the paths, lenghts of visits... Based on all this information you could place the items of interest to the top, make them bigger, and so on. Im sure that there are people than can give you even better advice, but just my 2 cents.

Your web site should be updated as often as necessary but not more.

Exactly... don't update your website just because "it should be updated every ??? days/weeks/months"... or because of SEO... However, if your website is "static" where, for example, your services or products are promoted, it's nice to update or add new offers or services from time to time... to look fresh ("something happens")... if you're running blog, it depends of you, but, again, don't add new pages just because "it's time", add it when you have something interesting...

Well I only updated my static website when i need too, if i have new relevant information but otherwise i would just leave it.

Although if its a blog i would be aiming to updated it 2-3 times a day although that can change depending on how many readers your getting.

I update my business website's template with the latest versions of pugins and java files but that's it really and along side that i updated the client pages and SQL behind it, I rarely ever touch the html/php/css.

I watch the situation that almost all huge hosting providers who have the certain number of clients update their website design from time to time! I suggest that if your website brings you good benefits its website content should be constantly improved, also I think there is no need to update design for a website if it is not beneficial!

Somebody else touched on this earlier. I try to keep an eye on some of the more popular sites and keep track of what their designs look like. I usually won't mess with the design unless I notice a lot of other sites changing.

One exception, updating blogs and adding useful content to your site is always a good idea from a search engine standpoint, at least in my experience.

Just my thoughts. Learning a lot from you guys. Keep it going.

I think the more popular your website is and higher demand or interest it has the more often it should be improved and updated!

My site (www.monochromedia.com) hasn't changed much graphically for a while. I've updated, tweaked, and altered a few images, but most of my changes involve new features and new content. To me, the site is a very dynamic project; it's never finished. But that doesn't mean that I change it just for kicks.

I think website should be updated as frequently as it is possible, especially, if these updates can lead to the certain improvements!

I've seen sites that haven't been updated for a year or so drop down in Google but sites of ours that we only update once every 6-12 months have kept their rankings. If you have a Google sitemap, then you can tell Google how often to cache each page - obviously, don't say cache it each day if you change your site each year.

graphical and design updates will have no impact on website rankings, but text and code updates can signifficantly influence on search engine rankings!
