how often does google update your backlinks in google webmaster tools?

The backlinks listed in Google Webmaster Tools or Yahoo Site Explorer are never ALL your backlinks, so they're not very useful in making any determinations about...well...anything Other than to see "hey, that site likes me" or "hey, I can see some of the results of my bookmarking efforts".

Google used to show all the backlinks about 5 years ago and then realized they were handing over a SERP recipe to everyone's competitors. Hehe.

 

I tend to agree - Google would be giving out far too much information as to their ranking algorithm if they were to provide every link you've got. Yahoo! counts NoFollow links in Site Explorer, whereas Google only rarely does and otherwise sticks to DoFollow, which is why the Webmaster Tools count is generally lower.

 

I had only 50 links to my webpage for 3 or 4 month, than i have got rapidly 1000 links. So this process take a time.

 

The information given here is interesting. I have 2 google accounts and 1 You Tube account,the problem is as I do not host on my own domain(I host on Blogger and windows live,My Space and You Tube.) Therefore this does not allow me to place meta tags in the html to verify my sites. But I find this does not make any difference as all of my sites and my You Tube site ARE included in Google and other search engines. So it has not realy effected me regarding getting indexed online.Andrea

 

What is the best backlink checker, if Google Webmaster doesn't show them all?

 

I notices changes almost on a weekly basis. There was one point where they didn't update for a few weeks, but lately it's been updating very consistently.
