No, it's not known to anyone but Google engineers when the next update will take place. Basically it's usually around every 3-5 months, but varys all the time. Don't worry about Pagerank, worry about SERPs.

As to the OP about Alexa, I wouldn't even bother using that toolbar and worry about that number it produces. Alexa toolbar is nothing more but spyware that using a website ranking system as a disguise. They sell off data to marketing analysis companies, which is always in high demand. Most spyware programs detect Alexa as spyware now a days anyways. 90% of the alexa toolbar users are usually webmasters just like yourself, the data is very inaccurate.

Yes, that "every 3 months" that seems alsmost to be taken as religion when you read the posts in this thread is quite a leap to conclusions. It might typically be in that range, but it is not consistent. Furthermore, I have seen Toolbar PageRank rolled out over a period od close to a month, so even when it does happen, it does not always happen all at once.

I'm not 100% sure (in fact i'm not 50% sure) so don't take my words for granted but I think I've read that google doesn't like this technique very much as it could be used for bad purposes :)

I would guess 4-5 months is correct.....used to be every 90 days but its getting longer and longer between PR updates.

they just had a cycle (last year) that went something like 160 days between updates.

the last cycle was one of the shortest on record (something like 48 days).

So there is clearly a "median PR update period" and that's probably 105 days....somewhere between 3-4 months.

(we need that "Numb3rs" guy played by David Krumholz, to calculate the statistical frequency of PR updates, as a random event of course!)

Google does update periodically, but there is no preset time or period in which this is done. Typically, Google will roll over updates on backlinks and page rank on its data centres when a complete index update and review has been completed on indexed documents and document integrity on that centre.

Because Google has lots of data centres, page rank updates happen quite far apart, sometimes in excess of 3 - 6 months.

The important thing is to focus on building your websites link profile, do not try and quantify early on, one month of hard link building won't always give you what you'd expect, especially since Google will not release all link information.

Keep building links, create some good link bait, some website tools and resources, and share something with the public, this is more likely to attract more natural backlinks.

    Good luck
