I think it depends on how 'important' Google sees your site. The more inbound links, the more frequent the indexing will be

Do you have a sitemap, and if so, when was the last time google checked it?

Make sure you're using google's webmaster tools google.com/webmaster

New and edited posts on my sites usually show up withing an hour or two.

You can request a deletion through google.com/webmaster or use a sitemap, you can index or delete in sitemap any page you want and then resubmit sitemap in google.com/webmaster

Get new backlinks from well indexed sites plus re-submitting sitemap are first steps to show google your refreshed site. Wait a week.

Yep... I did this not too long ago.. After you request a remove it normally takes 4-6 days for google to remove the page.

Thanks wordofmind I was not aware of the resubmitting site map. Sounds like the best solution.

if you are using wordpress, or another blog, check to see when your posts are set to be reindexed. The default wordpress setting is one year.
