How often do you reinstall Windows on your machine?

Never, I have an iBook

 

before windows 2000 professional, I used to install windows 98 every 4 to 6 months. but win 2k doing fine job.

If you manage your system effectively you don't need to reinstall so often.
use antivirus, firewall and firefox it will help your windows live longer

 

last year i was student of computer science & engineering so, i tried different things and try to learn registry and another windows file,so some time my windows OS got problem.i remember that i had reinstall OS three times in a single day.but i learned a lot through this type of experience.

 

will you tell me what is iBook??

It is an apple notebook as far as i know.

I just get a new computer every 6 months or so... so I guess I cant remember when I reinstalled last... On my machines that I turn out I place Linux on them and send them to our noc so.... Oh and Linux doesn't really ever have to be reinstalled...just upgraded and patched :]

If I'm lucky, only when my HD fails but sometimes you get a BSOD that won't die ....I love it when you can't even boot in safe mode...WTH???

However, if I was smart I'd be like FruitBat here...I really like that idea. There is nothing like a fresh install to cure what ails you in the speed dept.

Regardless of how much AV/Spyware/Firewall/Reg Cleaner/HD defrag/*.* maintenance you perform - at least for me I get major grindage

 

I reinstall Windows in every year for my desktop and every half a year for my laptop. It has become a kind of routine for me. After the reinstallation, my desktop or laptop will be so much faster as compared to the condition it was in just before the reinstallation.

 

About 2 years, that is unless I get a new computer (which is about every 2 years)

 

hi FarmerOak, just curious what you do to the old computers after 2 years of usage. Do you sell it off or you are able to trade-in the old one with the new one?

 

I could use a good 'hand-me-down'

I have win2K. I havent reinstalled for 2 years. Working fine with me. Just a small tip --" never use IE ".

 

I try to clean it up once every year or so (usually in the summer)...

If i don't me being stupid w/ it usually builds up and breaks it anyways.
