i use the tracker from dp... every morning when i start up... I hit check all... I briefly glance at it... then go about my business... of course, if i am working on new keywords, I will pay attention a bit more.

Rankings move up and down all the time (especially in the top for competitive queries), so checking rankings everyday is a sure way to panic too many times a week.

I check rankings twice a month with a script I threw together myself.

    Once per month....for 2 reasons

Google only does a deep crawl of your site once per month

and it take your SEO work about a month to affect the SERP's

I check once a week because it usually takes a few days for changes to happen.

10 times a day! Actually, more like once of twice a day so I can make daily charts. I used to use software to check multiple times a day for all keywords, and might have been sending too many queries to google that caused my site to get removed from SERP for all keywords. So now I check manually and once a day and managed to get out of the penalty.

I always check it once a day or even 3 times a day because rankings on google always fluctuate..

Very interesting point there. I didn't realise google gave you a penalty for too many queries, i thought they just went as far as showing a nice Captcha to fill in!

Oh and about once a week with SEO Elite!

    hi

google spiders crawl normal websites after 1-2 months and the rankings change after that only

moreover whenever there is an algorithm change then also a lot of rankings change so I think that website rankings should be checked about once ina month

moreover too many queries in a short time interval can also spoil things!!:):)

    thanks,
    ankur

I check my rankings once a week and at the same time look at my site stats to see if I'm ranking for any new major keywords. Of course, if traffic seems to dip I immediately go check out my rankings to make sure that's not the cause.

I pull rankings weekly at a scheduled time for the top 150 major keyword phrases targeted by my site. These are our "money" keywords, the ones that convert into the most sales or that bring us the most traffic (even if they don't convert immediately). This list rarely changes unless we add some major new product. These reports are mostly to do some monthly management reporting and to detect big problems with the site.

I have a second much smaller set of keyword phrases that represent the phrases that I am currently building links for. Again, I pull these at a scheduled time weekly (different time the 150 major keywords we track over long periods of time). This second list changes every few months as I finish working on links for one set of keyword phrases and begin targeting different the next set of keyword phrases.

An interesting point there, but how can you be sure that the SEO work takes about a month to affect SERP's

Poin to note, too many queries for the same url can raise a flag with google
That is professional use of serp ranking checks, you an affiliate marketer

Mate that is exactly what i need to do. I don't suppose you would want to tell what software you use to track it like you talked about?

    Please explain the method

    thanks

I like to check at least once a day, or once every other day... I am working on building up the back links and making small corrections. So as far as I know I am using Rank Checker from SEOBook.com but I am considering an alternative cause this takes to dam long, and always locks up on me... i question how good the results are anyway.... anyone have some suggestions?
