In the past my stats for AdSense vs my hit counters has been off a little, but today it's TOTALLY obvious.

    AdSense says : Page Impressions : 5
    StatCounter says : Page Impression : 29

Come on google - get with the program already !

The adsense stats barely eaqual 1/2 of my total unique visitors for the day.

There can be all sorts of reasons for this. For one, google may not have updated the numbers yet. For another, maybe no ads were being shown.

Or, adsense may be screening some 'visitors', i.e. bots that statcounter doesn't.

True. But in this case all hits are to the front page - which I know delivers about 4 impressions per visitor.

And all of todays visitors are not bots - they're people clicking on a link I sent them.

Right now it looks like this :

    AdSense : 21 page impressions
    Stat Counter : 60 page loads - 22 visitors

    Go figure.

Yeah i also get a massive disparity between adsense and site statistics (awstats), which i think is relatively normal, but it still hurts if you think of it as lost income. The stats do take out the majority of the bots, but are still twice to six times as high as adsense numbers and it varies from site to site. If anyone knows how to decrease the disparity by increasing the adsense numbers, i'd love to hear about it...

I think the Statcounter only counts human visitors. It could also be that some visitors left before Google could count as an impression. However, most likley is that the stats haven't updated.

Unique IP, can this be a problem? It counts only unique IPs?

When google counts a impressions I think it does it by ads displayed.

So a page with 3 ads = 3 impressions even though it's only one hit.

So if I get 20 hits on a page with 3 ads it should = 60 impressions as long as all ads are served.

You can see the ads like that when you go to advanced reports and change the ' Show data by ' box to individual ad unit. Then you'll see how many 'ads' were presented. But otherwise, the numbers are page impressions.
