How often are categories updated ?

    Hello everyone,

Two days ago, I submitted my website www.db-linguistics.com in the following category Reference:Education:International:Language_Schools:French since DB Linguistics Inc is a language school located in Ottawa Canada where French as Second Language and English as Second Language are taught (more French than English). However, I noticed that the last update was done on Monday, August 15th 2011. Is it just because nobody has submitted any website for a while?
Does anyone know how often categories are updated? How long should I wait before submitting my website again?

Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

there is a gliche on the system which is giving wrong dates BUT there is no timescale for any category to be updated, depends on when a volunteer editor working in their spare time chooses to work on that category and chooses to use suggestions. That can be from a few days to a few years.

But hey did you bother to read those guidelines which you said you had read when suggesting the site, you know the bit that says
    http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html

So why are you asking when to re-submit when you have agreed when making the submission to have read the guidelines that say DON'T DO IT.
It can waste editors time, at best it overwrites the date stamp and can get dealt with as a new submission and lft till later and at worst it will be treated the way you treat spam in your inbox and zapped and banned.
One thing it certainly does NOT do is speed up any process.
You have suggested the site, there is now absolutely nothing more you can do at DMOZ.Go away and promote your site elsewhere and just come back in a few months/years and if the site complies with guidelines you might find it listed. And no before you ask we don't do site status checks neither do we tell you if the site has been listed.

Now you could have leaned all that by not being so lazy and read around the posts on this site. It's all there and more if you had taken the trouble to search a bit.

    Edit to add
    Hi Jim,we posted nearly simultaneously!

What Jim meant to say was:

Some volunteer may process your listing suggestion but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few years to never. There is no need to re-suggest your website because the chances of any of them getting approved is 1 in 11 million

    Have a nice day!
