Hello all, Recently I have read a small post by kdemonte in the webtalkforum. His post got me interested in writing an article about it. Actually, it is an extension of what he wrote. How NOT to run a directory Please note that this article is not meant to offend or insult anyone. Think of it as a way for submitters like me to vent our anger.
Please add that the success message, when you did manage to get past the fuzzy image, should be visible! I can't stand scrolling around wondering where the directory in question will tell me that things worked. It should be front and center - visible - no questions asked. If you want to redisplay the input form, I can scroll down and get to it... don't worry.
Oops, Carbon Dioxide posioning here. Corrected. Thanks Velo. Grokodile: Added, good point. wwws: Yup, but if it is free, no harm.
I can't stand this image verification. Then again I can stand spammers... I am sure that must be a better solution.
Why not promote viagra through the listing accepted email? I've bought alot of things through that method hahaha Good article!
Hmmmm even with as many as i have i manged to actually say..... I dont do that to all except 1 .... 12. Tell me straight away which payment system you accept. Don't want to hit the submit button, only to realize that you accept 2CO and nothing else. I agree as its happened to me a few times but most do have paypal... but its nothing to add a few banners or buttons... thx malcolm
Is there something people don't like about 2co? Or was that point that the buyer might want paypal or some other system type?
r72392: I don't believe I said that I don't like 2CO. I meant that they should tell us which payment merchant they accept.
Hmmm, okay might I ask why you have something against "free" directories having advertising banners ?
It's okay to have advertising banners. But way too much is not good. I have seen directories with top banners, side banners, in-content banners and tons of footer links. Some even have banners just above the submit button when you do the site submission.
HI All I think it is simple for a directory owner to list on the submit page the payment options they take... Most use paypal but if you don't list your options in clear view for the visitor.. Then you are missing out... Dont forget their are so many dirs on the web now you are fighting for people to list their sites with you... Thanks Tom Dahne
