I hate those sites where the text size is either too small or you have to highlight what it reads because the colour is the same as the background.

Not bothered about that one. The whole point of the free ebook usually being written is as a lead capture device. It wouldn't be there for you to want otherwise.

Going back to your first post. Seo-wise I guess things like:

- using id= in query strings
- using graphical elements as links
- adding the advertising before the content!
- using javascript to link between pages
- and again frames, but for a different reason than bad usability and design
