SeanB, that's good to hear: take action right away - and don't stop. Don't be afraid to ask "big names" when doing interviews. I didn't "climb to the top" (in interviews) by first asking smaller names and then gradually asking bigger names. I went right away and asked some of the biggest companies in the gaming world - and one accepted. Getting the second "big name" was easier after that.

I would also suggest getting group interviews: I did this few days ago and it has got lots of positive feedback from users, from the group - and naturally getting linked & additional traffic.

Awesome article, Game. You hit the INTERVIEWS idea right on the head. It is fairly easy (compile a long list and its just a numbers game based on who responds) and it is FRESH content that readers are interested in. Good stuff!

Great Article. Thanks for taking the time to write it. I think the value is in the goal setting as most of us webmasters often get hitched by the smaller things.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for thanking people - I have plans to put the updated guide online "soon" (like I already said seven hundred times). Hopefully you guys not just read the article... but also put it in use. That's the second best thing after setting a goal.

I am new here at Ditigal Point and your article is the first one I read. If that is any indication of what to expect here, I am a life time member. I recently started a forum site called Funums.com and I am interested in ways to develop it. It only has 22 members, and is getting 10k page views per month, depending on which stats you use. (Stats: As you mentioned about how they can vary, I will look into Analytics, thanks)
I know your time is important, but I was wondering if you would take a quick look at my funums.com site and give me any quick tips you may have to improve the site. It is only a few months old. Getting started.
Thanks for your great article, you have already given me some great ideas.

Glad you liked it. I think the best way you to improve your site is to check around these forums and learn & implement what you see. Few suggestions came right to my mind: put a descriptive TITLE for your website. If you look at the DP forums title (in the forums.digitalpoint.com page) you can see that they tell that "these forums have internet marketing discussion". Your forums on the other hand say "join this new forum". It doesn't say "fun discussions about funny things" (or whatever).

You might also put this info in your website header.

The second thing that comes to my mind... you have soooo many subforums there and most of them contain only a few messages. Perhaps make smaller number of subforums and concentrate on getting posts on those?

I'm not an "forum builder" expert, so I'd suggest checking out what tips there are already in these forums regarding "getting traffic to forums".

    Good luck.

And if you think spending time "daily" is "too much" for you... then simply write 7 post in one day and schedule them for the next week (I sometimes do this). It's an easy way to get updated every day, without spending much time on it anyway.

thefees, glad you liked the article. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

brettfromoz, aye - and taking baby steps every day to reach that goal...

thanks for imparting such a good information step by step. I have one question about "Google Analytics tracking", i am also planning to move for this. Is this worth? Can we also track from where our traffic is coming? i am very eagor to use this.... thanks in advance

No problem, glad you liked the information.

I've been happy with Analytics and it sure can tell where traffic is coming from (with lots of other data). Get it right away, because it's free & pretty simple to install.

The only downside Analytics has that it cannot track file downloads: for example, if you have a PDF file you cannot know (using Analytics) how many times that PDF has been downloaded. (You can track people coming to download page - but not file downloads). This hasn't been big deal for though, and shouldn't be much of a problem since you can always use tools such as AwStat to check those stats.
