How much you RATE an average writer on DP?

I just had this query as i see a lot of writers here on DP, who are working individual as well as a team. I wanted to know that after using the services of many writers around here, what is your average experience for a DP writer on the scale of 1-5 .

I will rate most of the writers anything between 2-2.5
Not more than this majority of the writers bring down the overall rating of the good writers here.
The good writers here are either very busy or get picked up by some big client.

So please tell what is your average Finding....

Well considering the fact that every writer I ever worked with, I researched properly on the forum... I would have to say 5 out of 5. I haven't had a bad writer yet.

People have to remember that yes, there are lots of average to below average writers on this forum... but if you hire someone that does the following:

    "hi,

I have been writing articles on various topics since last 19 months and i have sold..."

What does the first introduction sentence tell me about the person. Like so many others he fails to use a capital 'H' when saying "hi" and when someone used the word "i" and not even capitalize it then I know the person doesn't pay attention to small details. Sure we all make mistakes and sometimes you forget to do some things but if you did an introduction you would read it several times and proofread it to make absolutely sure that it is your best. After all you are interested in obtaining clients so it is better to make the first impression count.

Then looking further I found someone that offers lens creation. Although their introduction was perfect, how they communicate with people in their thread makes it seem a tad unprofessional.

I decided to investigate one of their lenses purely because I am interested in obtaining one. I see the following sentence is written well, but there is no flow in the sentences and it is almost as if each sentence is something on it's own thrown together. I won't be surprised if the person just rewrote the individual sentences. So if I am looking for a good writer, then he won't do. In the end I love creative energy mixed with good sentences. Your writing doesn't have to perfect if you can grab a reader's attention and that is something I look for.

So researching any writer's previous posts and threads is always a must. You get a feel for how they write or how they deal with people on the forum. The next step is where I contact them with my specifications. I always give a deadline. This is to ensure I do not waste my time on writers that are inactive. It is real easy to see who is, when I specify that a project needs to be done within a certain time frame. Of course I give them extra time if they email me back and state they are busy. If they are good writers, I am prepared to wait.

The ones that are dodgy and do not qualify are the ones that contact me over 24 hours later when I initially replied to them. If I get the feeling they can't be arsed then I simply walk away and find someone else. Occassionally I came across people like that, and personally it didn't do anything to my pocket if they weren't interested. There are other good writers on this forum.

So yes, the good writers will be busy and not all people that write really well get picked up by big clients. There are times where I have wondered what would happen if I went into it full-time, but to be honest...I love my freedom and my spare time to do as I please. I would rather outsource what I can for some of my sites and for the rest I will do it myself.

    I wouldn't even know.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. If someone is a lower-level writer, but they are mainly doing articles for article marketing and AdSense, then they are probably doing those quite well. So it all works out in the end.

Every forum/community on the planet has a mix of talent levels.

I think it depends on what you've been looking for and if someone is price shopping alone. There are a lot of good writers here. I have referred other writers since I haven't been able to take many jobs from here lately because I'm so booked. And in those cases where I have referred both client and writer have offered feedback and been happy enough with each other to set up a regular gig.

If your experience has not been very good, do rethink the information you are providing. I got a proposal today that I had to turn down but the guy had a great presentation of what he wanted. It was clear, concise and well thought out. That, in and of itself, improves the experience. I often have to do that part by filling out a creative brief that prompts clients to supply the proper info for making a project go smoothly. These take time so I have to charge for it. However, if you were to present your job with all the necessary info, you'd get a better end product and pay a reasonable price.

In my opinion, all depends on the type of writing required (ezine, blog posts, website content etc) and the money you are ready to spend. At an average, a client can find writers who are good at writing blog posts and ezine articles and it normally charges 1 usd per 100 words.

It all depends on how well you do your homework regarding who you hire. I've had very good experiences myself so I'd say 5/5

I guess the only person who could rate a writer on DP is someone who's paid one to write for them in the first place :p

I have hired, and tried to hire, a number of writers here on DP over the years. My experiences has been very mixed. For the record, I don't hire the $5/article types. I generally look for the best I can get in the $0.025 - $0.04/word range. I tend to say, "I want to buy 5,000 word on this, that and whatever; spend them as they need spent. Write in a relaxed conversational style and, if it fits/works, don't be afraid of 'first person'".

I always ask for and read writing sample and/or articles they have written for others. If they have a blog, I read well back into the archives.

    A few examples:

1 - Good writer, did a good job on a series of articles. I paid promptly and asked the writer if they wanted to do a second series of articles. They did, so I set out the specs and agreed to their fee. Writer disappears for about 3 months. Finally sends an email, "Do you still need those articles .. I find that I have some time on my hands."

2 - I needed a series of articles written by a native English speaker. Assurances of a native speaker. Articles are obviously not .. "Well, we speak English in our home in [Asia] every day."

3 - Specific articles detailed and ordered from a non-English speaker because they were about a specific country. I sent a series of suggested titles and a brief outline. The articles were obviously severely bloated to up the word count. Two of articles were almost identical. I ended up doing some serious and time-consuming editing after rejecting several articles.

4 - More than one experience where the writer quotes a price, says they don't need a down payment, then disappears. What makes these frustrating is that I put a lot of thought and a fair amount of work into setting out details and standards for what I need. Then there is the time I lose waiting for replies .. that never come.

5 - A couple of good experiences as well.

Lately, I tried a few writers and found them to be useless. Most of them did show me their articles that have gone on Ezine, but then I realized Ezine does not do any quality check.
The articles that were shown to me had poor English, Grammar, Punctuation and more importantly wrong sentence structure without a flow in the article.
I know a few good writers too but they are too busy to be on my projects.

I will rate the recent writers I have tried to be 2 on a scale of 5.

Like i said before, the higher a writer normally charges the better the content would be :) Just always and i mean always ask for sample content :) best solution to anything.

If you're expecting quality content for .02-.04 per word, they you get what you pay for and can't complain. It's work, plain and simple. The research, getting the information from the client, finding a strategy and/or hook.

I would say average rate is around $1/100 words unless a special bulk order is made for a good quality content. But some buyers who want to try on their luck usually offer $2-3 for 500 words article with a high expectation..
