I started out as a forum poster.. earnd about 30-50 per month. Then eventually I've switched to article writing and started to earn 100/month. And now I reached the 140/month target and wanted to reach 200 in the future.. :)

It all depends upon the subject and the client. If you are writing any technical subject, there are webmasters who pay a whooooping $20 for 500+ words article. But I have only 2 such clients. Otherwise you can get on an average of 5-7 $ per article.
I am getting around a grand per month & hoping to get 1.5 in near future.

Between $2500 - $3000 a month. I've been doing this for more than a year, however, and I wasn't always this swamped.

There's fantastic money in writing. I am always shocked when I read that the earnings suck. Just look in places other than DP for work!:D

My dream income would be $5000/month.

I write for SEO companies mainly, and occasionally writing for a magazine or newspaper depending on how much time I have. I like it because I can make as much as $100 an hour writing one page of content.

I've had other companies come to me for 'quick' jobs (which I'm known for) and get paid $1000 for working two days on a project.

Depends... If you are providing quality information in an interactive manner without doing any re-writing stuff, you definitely deserve good bucks. Stay original and accurate, and you are going to be in demand. I admit, I have worked at lower rates at the beginning of writing career but now I am running a company, providing great content yet affordable prices.

Still, what counts is your quality and originality. $10 /500 words is normal for a freelancer

It all depends on the type of work you get but i'll say it is better to develop your own sites rather than writing stuff for other people. This can get you a lot more profit in long term.

Not sure what you mean. If you mean where do I find the jobs, I only look at Craigslist seriously now. DP used to be a good source for fop jobs, but the good offers now are few and far between.

I have to add though, that at least 75 percent of my income comes from repeat business, so I don't have to worry too much if a few opportunities don't pan out. I would say build up a reputation with your existing clients, not just for the quality of your work, but also your professionalism and attitude. When they expand their websites (and with good content on their sites, they will - it's only a matter of time), you're still their number one girl (or guy) to handle the content! :D

Currently around £500/$1000, but only recently looked at expanding that a little further, so will be checking this forum alot more regulary!

The work i do currently, is just re-writes of press releases and news items.

I am hoping to expand into article writing for Sports, Fitness, Motoring, Property.

I'd stop short of saying normal. Common on DP, perhaps, but $10 isn't "normal." :)

$10 for 500 words, on average, is less than minimum wage i'd say.

    Hi kks_krishna

I started freelance writing (and proofreading) in January this year, and so far, the most I've earned is about $270 for the month. I don't do this full-time as I have a desk job, but I expect that if I had more free time, I'd be earning more.

I tend to take on projects that I feel I'll be interested in writing about.

    Hope this helps.

    take care...

    .

Very true! It is not normal for writers who can write something REAL unique, different and compelling copy, they definitely deserve $$$. But frankly speaking, $10 is not only common and normal at DP but also at popular freelancing sites like GetAFreelancer.com, Guru.com, Elance etc.

If you go lower than $10, your quality is suspected and if you try to move up (unless you are experienced enough in the industry), you are most likely to be ignored. The normal rates, what I have noticed, are around $8-$12. At least for beginners ff not for most experienced freelancers.

It is all up to you what you can give, what you are capable of, and what you really deserve; and it can be as high as $100/500 words or even $10 for a decent 500 words copy.

I may be wrong and I may really learn new freelancing facts & figures of the industry.

Nice to see all views so far :)
