How Much Would you Pay for This?

    Q...

How much would you pay to have a custom addon to your website for you current users to upload videos?

This would not be done with pluggins or mods.. IT would be a straight up Hire of a Team of Programmers to put together a quality video sharing website?

    Would you pay $2,000? $9,000 $15?

Just fishing for those who have experience with this type of deal. I personally think my guys are giving me the run around...

It all depends on the scope of your project, but I can tell you that $5,000 would be at the top end of things. I'm sure that there is some open source framework they could use to bring the development cost down. Don't make them do it entirely from scratch, there's no reason.

    $100-150 for basic functionality

depends what kind of extras you'd want - options for administration etc.
The Programming subforum is a better place for this question btw :)

They guys I hired are from elance... I noticed they used some type of script and NOW they are customizing it. I think I just wanted to be sure I wasn't getting the run around so I guess $2K is a fair price considering everyone else wanted $9-15K..

The problem is these dudes didn't have an elance rep they were new and claimed they broke off from one of the other elance teams... After a long chat I was confident but I always have my doubts, after all it's my money and I've had some elancers do some shoddy work and didn't get my monies back. I hired elancers becasue I don't have time with my Demanding Air Force Job and I'm working on My masters... I took a big gamble to try this out but I forsee the outcome to definately benefit... Gotta thank my brother who is a Millionaire for giving me the hype to go through with it. My lucky brother owned a lot of singles sites and was bought out by Spark Networks for some nice moolah... I hope I can follow in my brothers footsteps.

I hope I can follow some of teh DP'ers footsteps too... You guys have been very good thanks for your comments..

ok yeah i think you are being ripped off. There are a lot of scripts, phpmotion for example can be changed and made into something totally different through the tutorials available.

The funny thing is i can probably find a team for you that will cost 1/10th how much you pay them

I think I paid $35 for the script I use and you can hire a updater for a few $$ a day to "approve or upload" vids to the site. (Any noob can use the script)

May want to look around some more and re-think this. Or am I missing your point.

If you pay cheap you will get cheap. Programmers don't work for pennies (unless they've decided to built some open source app for free for whatever reason) and thinking you will get anything decent for $35 is pretty funny. I could get a car for that amount (and it would run) but I wouldn't let anyone else's kids in for the ride. Don't fuck over your users. Have a quality build done by people who aren't 12 and think they're l33t because they know how to modify a PHP script written 5 years ago.

I agree with you... But here's the standard that I assigned for my programmers. http://www.boomdizzle.com Boomdizzle is not my site but that's the quality of video uploading section I will get for one of my member sites... What do you think? Is boomdizzle a script.

    Sorry I over priced it, it's $10.

This is the script I'm running here.

I know the layout looks kinda funky, have'nt ever tried styling anything using Smarty but I'll get it eventually.

    I'd say anywhere from 250 - 500 for basic functionality, 500 - 1,000 for moderate and 2,000 - 5,000 for advanced.

Gotta remember to, you get what you pay for. if you only want to pay 150 bucks for a module to be thrown together, then you'll be getting a module thrown together without much thought for security.

It just amazes me at the amount that people charge. I can agree that most people overseas charge pennies for work, but the old saying is true at someone else mentioned... you WILL get what you pay for.

If you HONESLTY think that you are going to end up paying someone a few hundred dollars to build a video sharing site, and then have it to be sold for millions... think again. I might be able to agree on cheap labor if it's something for personal use like maybe throwing a quick site to show your family or a hobby.

When it comes to a business and even trying to make money off of it, you can't expect quality work at crappy pay.

Here's my latest site using pligg cms which is open source. Almost Cyber

I'm not trying to undercut anybody here, just showing what can be done with scripts/programs out there.

btw: I live in the USA, and still proud of the saying - "Made in the USA"
