    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to price my product and I would like get some input from you guys.

How much would you pay for a lifetime online storage account with 250GB of space and 5GB file limits? Keep in mind that this is a one-time price, not a monthly subscription, and that similar monthly subscriptions cost approximately $10 a month (for 250GB of online storage).

What do you think would be a reasonable price?

    Thanks!

If similar subscription are $120 for a whole year then perhaps $150-180 one off fee ? Maybe even $200 if you can blag it.

As a buyer I would stay away from this sort of package. The host have all our domains for a lifetime and if there are any problems then we won't have anything to exterminate.
What does lifetime means? Until your company closes rite? That can be in 5 years or 1 year or in just 6 month.

    Thanks for your input.

The problem with $150 - $200 is that I think it scares off all but the most targeted buyers. I've been pricing it at $49 (equivalent to less than 5 months of the paid service) but I don't know if that's too little or too much. Your suggestions makes me think it might be too low...

I'm trying to target the mass-market, not just those specifically looking for online file storage. So let me ask you this, up to what price would YOU pay for this service (assuming you're not looking for online storage)? In other words, what one-time price would entice you to get a 250GB lifetime storage account even if you don't need it?

I'll open up that question to everyone here.

Hi, I think you misunderstood, this is not a web host to host websites (so no domains involved), it's a reputable online file storage site (and not my site).

I doubt you can find many 250GB hard drives for under $49, and even then, they have an average lifespan of 3-5 years vs. a lifetime for the online storage, and can only be accessed by the computer they're connected to vs. anywhere-access for online storage.

Regardless, how much would YOU pay for 250GB of lifetime online storage?

Its hard for me to say cause Im web savvy enough to know that I'll never need to buy 250GB but as a newbie internet user you should price it as low as possible so $49 is a good amount. Personally nothing more thant $50 for me but thats cause I don't need it. $49 sounds good if you can afford to do it, you might even out do the competition.

    HD 250GB = portable but a hassle
Online 250GB = life time, internet needed.

Most cases if your at a computer your most likely to have internet

really, monthly charges are better. For most people it would be cheaper to break the payments up over a year. Another good thing would be to give the customer the option to discontinue their service without penalty, like Godaddy do.

Thanks for your input. It's interesting that you said nothing above $50 because that's what I thought when I originally priced it. I don't know why, but anything above $50 just seems like "too much" online.

You would prefer to pay $125/year (or $10.50/month) rather than $49 once for the exact same 250GB online storage account?

Thanks for your input. So at the current price of $49 I guess you would think it's a steal of a deal. :)

I'm starting to wonder if I've actually under-priced it at $49...

Thanks everyone, please keep the feedback coming.

I will pay around $1000 for it coz its lifetime.
And there should be no download limit such as you can only download 10GB/day

I see its a file hosting company. My suggestion is
$49 per year is an attractive price. Offer 100GB not 250GB.
$49 for 100GB of storage is ok per year.

    File storage ..
For 250GB I would pay something around 80~120$
The more storage the more the payment I guess .. For example 250$ for lifetime 1TB storage !
But the question is will this file storage site have remote upload ?

Hi everyone, thanks for the continued feedback.

To be clear, I'm not looking to charge a monthly, annual, or any other type of recurring fee. I'm talking about a one-time price upfront for 250GB of online file storage for life.

The consensus definitely seems to be that I should price it higher than the current price of $49.

Please keep the great feedback coming. Thanks!

    My business model would be:
    $10/month for a 100GB or $80/year
    $16/month for 200GB or $190/year
    $20 to $24/month for 250GB or $225/year

This way, my revenue continues to come in even though my customer base averages out or even drops.

Think about the Web hosting companies business model. If they charged a 1 time cost for their packages, they would go out of business within the 1st year.

Not trying to be rude, but not only have you under priced your service, but you also have shot yourself in the foot. My advise would be to look at how some of the web hosting and other online storage services break the plans up and try to mimic your models after theirs and provide cheaper prices to your customers.
