Hi I have a potential client who needs a shopping cart added to their site, they have already signed up for a cart via there hosting provider, so I have to use that cart, here is the cart http://www.ihoststudio.com/Www/Products_Demos_Videos.aspx, It seems easy enough to set up. They have approx 250 products, how much would you guys charge? I know some peoples prices for eccomerce start at around £1000, whereas others charge and initial price for setting up the cart and then a price per item, say £2. Last time I did a shopping cart of this size, I feel I under quoted, therefore any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Dee
What was your previous project? How much time did it consume building it? So that it could be our point of reference.
Hi I can't really compare this to the last big one I did which had in excess of 250 products (shoes and handbags), because that was a heck of a lot of work and very time consuming, but that was down to the way the cart had to be incorporated into the site, as opposed to just the cart itself. I would post the url but the client has took the site offline for the time being, due to relocating and therefore not having the time to run the business. But I used Mals eccommerce for that one. This cart (if you can spare a few mins to look at the demo video) appears relatively straightforward to set up. Therefore I don't want to go in overpriced, but I don't want to end up out of pocket this time either. Any help would be MUCH appreciated Dee
Dee, instead of requiring a fixed price, you could ask for one that is more flexible, like this: start by asking for an initial setup fee, such as £50, and add a per-product-fee. Also remember to provide discounts such as: at 95 products added, you get 5 products added for free. Another way is to estimate the time you'll be working for the client then multiply that amount of hours with the price you require on a per-hour basis. Example: you consider that it will take you 5 hours to do the job; you work at £30 per hour --> you ask for £150. The initial idea is to have a price that would allow you to take discounts out of it. From an initial price of £100 you won't be able to cut a large amount of money, while for an initial price of £350, you will be able to go to your customer and say: "you get 10% off if you use our hosting services". I hope that this will be of use to you, Dee
Hi, thanks for that, I appreciate it. However the 2 options will come in at a vast different price, for example if I was to charge £100 for the initial cart set up and then £2 per product (which many sites charge in the UK), that would come in a £600. Where as my hourly rate would make it quite a bit less, and like I said I don't want to under price myself again I see many sites where their price for a store starts at £500-£1000 and some state 50 products, so I would really love to hear what others charge I want to be fair to the client, whilst not under pricing myself at the same time. Thanks Dee
Well with my company we usually charge a set up fee because we create all themes custom for each type of cart we use. Then on top of that if they want us to set up products as well we charge $2.50 USD per each product they want and sometimes will give bundle deals on most large orders.
