Currently we're making a website using WP and our client wants a unique design + some functionality that we can't adjust using only WP engine + plugins. So for the unique design, coding (front-end and back-end), and some content like F.A.Q., about us page etc. we're making a deal for $1050.

Its depends on as per requirements. If you need starter website for small business that would be started from around $50 . This will increase when requirements changes.

Depends on what you want the site to do. My prices start at 750 USD. I have been building WP themes for years and make a living offf of WP so my prices are higher than most due to the security and page load time advantages; as well as knowledge and support. Anyone that can build you a site for cheaper is going to be an amateur and might be good but they would not be able to make a living off of charging less than 500 bucks. WP has a lot of faults and can blow up fast if you do not know the back end of it.

I will do a 1 page site for $250. That is using my template and just pasting in the content and adding supplied images and video. Any thing additional goes up from there. 5 page site starts at $500 and works the same way. it is very rare that we build any sites at these minimums. There is always add-ons that the customer want which will increase the price quite a bit.

The main thing lacking in this discussion is the ongoing MAINTENANCE required for the site you create..

I'm an amateur and freely admit it.

I created a site for a friend's business, nominally for free.
    Site is: https://rijidijoffroad.com.au/

My mate (we'll call him a clinet for the sake of the discussion).

    Client paid for:
    Domain name
    Hosting plan.
    Premium Theme

I did all the content creation. SOME was C&P from his old website, but even that required re-formatting.
Then I spent quite a long time creating the rest of the content in liaison with him.

Periodically I go in and update the plugins etc for him, as he hasn;t yet found time to work out how to use wordpress.

    So it's an ongoing thing.
It works out though - recently he sent me a prototype dash for mt Defender for testing (and to keep) which was a nice surprise.

So while I did this for free as a favour to a mate (his old website irked me so badly I HAD to do something for him!) , and did so as a learning experience... I certainly WOULDN'T be even vaguely interested in doing the same for anyone else without at least about $750 to create the site, and some sort of retainer for maintenance.

    Cheers

I would consult with the business owner about what they are wanting to achieve from the site.
Find out the lifetime value of what a client is to them, then base your quote on this.
The website is just a means to an end - new leads and customers for the business owner.
Talk to the client about generating new leads and customers via the website.
    Don't go cheap.

I don't think I would want to make a Turdpress site even for a MILLION dollars. I have enough headaches without getting married to a site fixing the fixes of the fixes of the fixes of the fixes ad nauseum that Turd press sites require.

It depends on what you're after and the work it takes to make the template. I would really take predefined templates and customize them to suit the client. That saves you time and effort. Anyway, I recommend you compare different prices.
