CAn anyone tell me what would be the cost of building a complete college management system...it will be a web application.. which runs on lan these are the requirements.. admission managemnt, fee structure , student management, parents related login accounts, library, academic activities, examination and evaluation well i just want to know the cost ..
I worked on a project where we created Blackboard-like application for a school and our company got 21,000$ and more money down the road, as we had to add additional functions as the application was used more. However, this was back in 2006.
for a project this size you're looking at around £6000-£8000 with 4-6 months development. it would be an ongoing task as well I imagine, so you'd have to shell out extra cash on a monthly basis. Try a freelancers website and you'll get it bidded on (just ignore super-cheap bids as you'll get rubbish results)
matt is correct, that would probably be about right. If you have a significant budget, I would talk to some local firms. I think you would have better results with a project of that size with a licensed business than you would small freelancers (primarily what you find on open bidding sites like rentacoder or elance).

I would think you need to answer the following questions. How is the software deployed? What is the suspected load? What are the specific features I need? What is the time frame to complete the service? What is my budget?
