I know a person who buys loads of dotcom and .co.uk domains instead of a traditional pension in the hope that these things will be worth something some day. Will anyone ever pay £10,000 for a domain name? What do you think?
Domains have sold for millions before. A domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it...bottom line. Domains with words in will be worth more in the future, but domains like kzdgfkgsdf.co.uk are worthless, so I hope your friend knows what he's doing or he will get in to a spot of trouble when it comes to retirement. If he purchases domains and is going to keep them until he retires, he is never going to win because registration fees add up to you know?
I don't know if it's a good strategy for a retirement.. you have to keep holding them and paying money each year... Also, it's hard to unload a whole bunch of them at one time. In my experience, the most I've made it someone contacting me out of the blue asking for a domain name I own, but that happens what - like once every two years. Eric
I hear what you are saying, domains for retirement is a little whacky. But consider if we knew 10 years ago what we know. A lot of people are in the game today and in 25 years the next generation might wish they were us.
Well, I agree with you in principle, but I believe you have to do something with the domains to make that work out, not just sit on them. Eric
Domain trading is a serious industry and can bring in big returns on investments. Placing money that you could have used for retirement is much more profitable but considered more risky so maybe a bit of both the traditional and new a is better idea.
