How much weight do old Domain names have VS. New??

Hi everyone.. I am new to the forum and would really appreciate any input you have in regards to choosing a domain name for a site that I am building.

Question #1: Is it worth paying for a domain name that was registered years ago versus and new domain? I know that Google takes that into consideration. I have already registered a new name with my keywords in it, but am seriously considering an older domain after some research.

The name I am considering is four year old. It does not have any pagerank or backlinks, but it is still within thet first ten pages of google for one of my key search terms. How is that even possible? It will cost me over $1000.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

I'd offer a lower bid they might snap at since its not making and money just sitting there, which it obviously has been for some time.

Older domains are more trusted, as a rule of thumb, I usually get an older domain for big projects, and use new for smaller ones.

A low PR page can outdo higher ones in SERPs. The results are not based on PR alone but many other factors.
