I agree on the specifically focused part like food blog directories, but does this mean some of your visitors actually learned about your blog through these directories? Can you please share with us here at least how much percentage of your traffic cam from these related directories? Thanks!
i do not know two days ago, i do a one-time free submmsion in free directory list i now just can check 1 back link there not so good
no i got every day 30+ visitors every day to my site from free directory but my links on 1 directory as partner sites (with site wide link) which is free directory. if you can get this kind of Spencer site wide links or partner links then you got the visitor from your site other wise you can't get traffic for your site from free directory it's basically boost up your back links in search engine.
Everything depends on the directories. You can't generalize all directories to this question; there is no general answer to this question. Old Directories with high PR is better than newer directories and those with lower PR. Paid Directories are probably better than free directories. And some directories might be better sending traffic to some niches than others (it might even be big difference). But I think we can agree that most traffic will not come from directories if you have a decent site.
You can make your own directory, since directories are nothing but just another make money online site.
I've just had a look over google analytics. Take a site with +50,000 visitors in the last month. I scrolled down the referrer list down to the 5-visitors entries. I fount NO directories until this point and stopped searching. Hell, I even get 5 visitors/month from meebo. Over the years I have spent about 170$ on paid directory submissions and did thousands of free dir submissions. This has only helped me in the beginning, to give an initial boost. It doesn't have any effect now whatsoever.
If it helped you in the start and gave you the boost to get going that has lead you to where your site is today, how did that not have any effect ?
I only get about few hits from directories unless you pay for a sponsored listing in the directories.
I am talking about traffic from directories here. It was close to 0 in the beginning and it still is. At first, it boosted my rankings in the SERPs. But now, no matter how many directories I submit to, they do not affect the SERPs anymore. I repeat: the traffic from directories was and is almost none. Actually it wasn't. I did not have any change in the SERPs after I bought those links. IMHO they did nothing to increase my traffic (either directly, or through search engines).
