So about a week ago someone made a nice post about ways to increase traffic. One of those on the list was a site called "Cool Site of the Day". http://www.coolsiteoftheday.com Well, I never heard of them but I submitted anyway. Earlier today I received an email that I would be the cool site for December 15th and to expect significant traffic. Sounds fishy. Nothing to lose. I can use all the exposure I can. That's what I'm guessing. But they sure do make some bold statements and apparently they've been around since 1994 which is like 100 years in web time.
I submitted one of my sites to them also, just for the heck of it, after you told us they exist. John
The 'coolsiteoftheday effect' just doesnt have the same ring to it as 'The Digg Effect' or 'The Slashdot Effect' Even if it brings in 100 visitors though, it better than nothing, let us know how it goes
I saw that post too and we have been reviewing some of the options that were mention in our staff meetings at the office. It would be great if you could respond back to this thread with the results. Thanks.
Looks like a new site, the homepage hasn't been through a PR update yet. The Alexa Rank is below 100k, so they probably do get close to 1k visitors per day IF the visitors are mostly webmasters. But if they are more of regular users, then well the traffic could even be 10k visitors per day.
I submitted my site because it was free, but the traffic will be all untargeted. On the homepage, it says click to see the site of the day, doesn't even have a description, so no one knows what it is before they see it.
Was cool site of the day about 6 months ago. Got 50-80 sign-ups. Looking at g-analytics still getting traffic from the site 40-80 hits a month. It's worth it.
Anything is worth trying at least once, right? Even if you only get one new subscriber out of it, it didn't cost you anything and you get to say you were cool site of the day for one day. I went and looked around and there's a list of all the sites from the very beginning so it could be a valuable link to your site in the long term. I went ahead and submitted one of my sites for the heck of it too
