How much traffic do you need to make decent money?

Hi, everyone.

I was wondering how much traffic a site needs before you can see a decent profit. Currently I get anywhere from 1,500 - 30,000 page impressions a day, depending on content released that day. After 6 months, my site has barely made $80 through various advertising companies (adsense, commission junction, and amazon). Is this normal? Other people have told me I should be making a lot more money, and I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong. My site is Old-Wizard.com.

do you have a forum on your site? Because I did not see a link to one. If you do, create a paid members section, for something like $5 a month. Post custom content to the paid members section.

I get about 30,000 - 40,000 page views a day and make enough to pay the server bill, and still have some left over - and that is just from my paid subscriptions.

 

The money you make also depends on other things. Like your ads placements.

You need to optimize you ads placements. Earning also depends on you site's Niche.

To make decent money, I think you need a lot of traffic.

Why there is so much difference in the traffic you get everyday? What are your sources of traffic?

 

well, our daily average is 3,000 impressions a day. we'll normally get 30,000 two or three days a month. the big days are normally when controversial articles are released.

 

With 3000/day I think its very close to the normal. You can expect $4-$8 per day.
Do little experiment with ad placement, design etc.

Not sure how many uniques, but like I said our daily average of impressions is 3,000. All time high has been 30,000.

The site reviews video games, and makes various top___ lists.

I got about 6k Impressions for about 20 $ + in Adsense. Other Ads / Links not included.

As far as you don't make spamming and don't make any violations that against the law and the rules of the companies, you attract 100 or 1,000 or 10,000 or 100,000 or 1,000,000 unique visitors. No problem!

 

I would suggest you try various Ad formats from Google adsense

All of your ads should look as a part of your content. When you have on your website, you will be able to increase your earning from your existing traffic to some extent at least

 

I think it depend on the type of the site
e.g proxies need around 100 uniques daily to earn $2 daily

 

It depends on your niche play around with your ad placement and if your using google ads try using only one ad unit per page seems to give me a better click value.

Why not do more to capture your visitor and build your list. With that many visitors, you should be able to do it fairly easily. What can you offer to get them to opt-in?

I am finding that emailing a list is easier than adsense revenue, although I do both.

 

I don't recieve much traffic on a few of my sites, but they generate more than some of my higher traffic websites.

 

Try for more cpm ads and flat rate ads and offer text link ads for some good price per week or month . You may join textlinkads.com , dclickads.com.since you are getting more page impressions you can get good offers

 

Maybe You should try CPM networks? Check out this list of CPM networks. For example, the first on the list pays up to 1.80$ per 1000 impressions of popup if traffic comes from UK/US, so with 1,500 to 30,000 You can make from 2.70$/day to 54$/day, so that will be from 81$/month to 1620$/month. Other countries have lower rates.
