How much traffic can a free webhost handle?

I know paid hosting is better, but for now I want to try a free hosting. I'm looking for a free web host that does not go down when traffic increases. Can a free web host handle occasional traffic surges from Digg, stumbleupon etc like 20K - 40K hits in a single day? If yes, then which one? I'm thinking about 110mb.com. Anybody has experience with that? Please help.

I'm not sure how much can free hosts handle, but the best 100% free web host that I've ever used was Freehostia.com (no any ads).

Freehostia would be inadequeate due to small bandwidth assignment. So you'd surpass it.

110mb would suspend your domain (EG: mydomain.com) just as any other paid shared hosting provider would -- until traffic cools down. But they won't suspend on USERNAME.110mb.com.

Also 110mb's top domains get 100K+ pageviews a day, with no effect to server.
