I'd say invest in content first. Forum posters, Article writers etc.. if the content is good they will come :)

I think that competition on your site is the perfect way to get people.

Make a couple of accounts, then chat with yourself.

Thats what most people do. Or invite fellow Imers to post a comment or start a thread.

Find other similar sites and join in discussion there - whenever appropiate post a link to your website if it answers someone elses question.

I wouldn't recommend adwords, because most visitors, whether from paid or organic search will not interact with your site. Overtime a small percentage of visitors will return regularly (if what you've got is good enough).

You might find you'll have spent a lot of money at adwords before you see any regular visitors. So it's probably just better to go with the free way, that way you aren't risking anything.

0.00$ in adwords. Forum is a wrong website to advertise with PPC. PPC is effective for online shops etc.

Content is the way to go. If built right, you can generate inexpensive targeted traffic.

    Cheers!

Definitely have to go the content route. Easiest way I've seen to get quick traffic is to write a Top 10/20/100/whatever list, the crappier the better, and get people to come to the site and tell you how wrong you are. Then you just have to hope the rest of the site has something to offer that may entice those visitors to stay around. Since it is an entertainment site, you've got plenty of things that could be made into lists.
