How much to spend on adwords?

    Hey folks,

Little vague I know, but when you started out and got your website to a place you were happy with, how much did you throw into adwords?

Still very much a startup business but sales have started; which considering I have only paypal setup at the moment, and I'm only getting 8-12 visits a day, aint too bad

When I get worldpay interegrated (this week hopefully), I'm thinking about spending around £200 per month on it. At the moment I spend £30

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks

You seem to be on the right track - starting small and constantly increasing the budget as you see fit is the wisest action plan.

I personally started with £50 a few years back (and needless to say, blew it in a few days, lol), then did some more small campaigns a little later - those cost me another £50 but already showed me some results, and nowadays I put around £1,500 - £2,000 per month into Adwords, constantly optimizing my campaigns and increasing the budget.

yes, as the last poster said take small steps forward with your budget. Analyze the traffic your getting in analytics-find out how visitors are interacting with your content(what pages theyre looking out, time on site, where they're falling off, etc..) and make adjustments. This data will help you to answer many optimization questions, and as you feel more comfortable with how your site is converting, slowly spend more on your ppc.

I started with even smaller than that, and ite worth it, I think the key is to out first which one is giving you clicks and pour our your money there.

Thanks for the replies.. never really thought about making a unique landing page - has anyone got a link to a successful one?

Bryanon... you mentioned you started out with £50 a month. What difference in turnover.. as a percentage if you dont want to get specific :) do you now see that you are pouring £1500 into adwords (assuming a good product is being sold at a reasonable price to a targeted audience)

I've just found a adwords for dummies book, so looks like I've got a bit of reading to do

    Cheers

I think you need to think about how much you sell your products/services for and then work back from there.

Do you already have some figures on conversion rates? I'd use these to guide your bidding and hence your overall spend, rather than just asking others what they spent.
