When a guy buys a gal a ring, he's supposed to spend x% of his annual salary (I can't remember what). But how does a feller (or a gal buying a wtch for her feller) go about deciding how much to spend on a wristwatch? Anyone know a handy rule, bcause it's NEVER about looks or features: I'd be just as happy with a $10 casio as a $700,000 Jean Dunand.
I've never spent more than about GBP £25 (about USD $50) on a wristwatch. I'm very careful with cash!
upto $200 is a decent amount to get a nice watch, you can get a mp3 player watch (I forgot the brand) with 1 GB memory for less than $200)
The rule to follow would be...will it break your back trying to pay it off? (assuming you pay via credit card) Or...will there still be food on the table after the purchase?
Well, that's the funny thing, see. Forgive the seeming immodesty (thank god for this anonymity): I make $600k/yr. I like pretty shiny things, but I've never been the kind of guy that displays his bank account size on his wrist for all to see. $3k for a nice Omega (hey, good enough for James Bond, right...?) seems ridiculous considering I wear a watch for a week before it starts to drive me nuts and I have to throw it in the drawer for a couple months. But then I like pretty shiny things... see my predicament?
What I meant was that if you can afford it...by all means buy what YOU want. There are so many people out there who are keeping up with the Joneses. Want the lifestyle but no money to back it up. Have fun shopping!
When my girlfriend graduated from college I bought her Guess wrist watch worth $130 and she was extremely satisfied with it. Although I think that she would have been satisfied with $60 Swatch...
