I've many friends, some of them write really well, some are good analysts.
I've contacted them to be content writers on my blog, but I'm bit confused
how much should i pay them, on what basis and how much. I'm planning
to give them much beyond average (CPM*Page views of their article) as
they are adding value to my blog.... If you were at my position how
would you tackle the situation ?:confused:

The above replies so far would be pretty insulting, the amounts that they are suggesting, it would be better not to send them a penny if one was to go as low as that, I mean that's just absolutely ridiculous, if you sent that to me as a way of saying thank you, I'd be extremely insulted at your sheer audacity and cheek.

Just because the going rate at DP is about 1 cent per word or less doesn't mean that that is what you have to pay under normal circumstances. The going rate for quality article writing generally is a lot higher than what you see here on this forum.

Sure, if the writing quality is dreadful, sentence structure hopeless, spelling errors and typos galore, 1 cent per word might be the going rate for non native English speakers and writers, although if you want quality and this is what your friends are giving you, I wouldn't dream of thanking them with anything less than 5 cents per word, for the time put in on your behalf and adding the high quality to your site.

Anything less than that would be a complete insult.

If you are looking for poorly written articles then yes the valuations above are about right. But if you want a quality well constructed article then you would need to pay more than this. There are the odd few who sell well written articles cheaply, but the majority of the time you get what you pay for.

I suggest you think about how long it'd take you to write an engaging, well-researched article. How much would you expect for your time? If these are friends, then you'll want to be careful to pay them what they're worth (that is, if you want to keep them as friends :)).

And, of course, if you budget is tight, then just explain that to them. Good friends are usually understanding, especially when you offer additional compensation in the form of PPVs. Point out how much traffic you get on your blog as a means of enticing them to write for you, so they don't think they'll be writing for free.

$.01 per word is anything but standard. Even $.10 per word is considered low by most real writers.

Don't assume DP represents the total Web writing market by any stretch of the imagination - it doesn't come close. And as others have said, remember that these are friends. Treating them on par with those "writers" who couldn't actually write their way out of a box won't do much for your friendship. Either pay them what their time is really worth, or come up with some other arrangement. Perhaps since they know you well, they might agree to some kind of partnership with you instead.

Thanks jhmatter, £££ and wordscientist . I think it's relative and
all depends how much article adds value, its uniqueness and so on...
and $2 for 500 words is very low and insulting....Also i think copyscape
isn't that strong way to measure uniqueness of article.
