How much to charge when a client wants Top5 for a 100million + results keyword

    Hi

I have a SEO company and my biggest problem is explaining clients that they should focus on specific composed keywords not single keywords such a cameras, hotel, downloads and so on.

For those who work with SEO how to you usually charge for keywords that are very competitive with over 50 million results? Do you take the job or you convince him to focus on different keywords? If that is not possible how to tackle monster keywords?

    Any input is appreciated:)

For getting on top 5 in a 100mil+ serps, I would say about 50000$.
I would suggest get the money upfront though.

Sheer number of results does not = competition.

For example i can show you a stack of top 5 placements for 150+ Million result terms i done virtually nothing to achieve.

You really need to dig deeper.

    allinanchor:keyword
    allintitle:keyword

This will give you a better indication, then reference that with search volume to see if it's worth targeting.

Agreed. 150 million results means nothing. But if "allintitle" gives you 150 million results, charge them 150 million dollars and run with the money because you'll never get to the top lol.

Good advice guys. One things i've heard in the past too is with work which may give the client sticker shock, base your rates on a contract which gives you a hefty bonus based on your performance or base the entire job on a pay-for-performance model. If this still scares the client, then chances are they have no clue how to monetize the traffic from a top 5 listing and you're better off finding another client... ;-)

    yes i agree

    for example
    allinanchor:"one click bookmarking" 2 results
    "one click bookmarking" 53,000,000 searches
