    I charge $5-$7 for 300-500 words.
For rewriting an article $4-$6 for 300-500 words.
I used to charge higher before but most clients are willing to pay this much.

I charge a flat rate of $1.25 for every 100 words. Both for rewriting and unique content.

It isn't the highest, I would definately like to raise it sometime.

I normally charge $12 for a 500 word article unless I think it will be ongoing work, and then I only charge $10 and I normally get a weekly writing gig out of it.

Also I don't take on topics that I know will be difficult for me. I'm afraid of not delivering the quality expected, so I just don't accept these topics.

Digiwords, where do you sell articles at? Just curious since you are new here with only 3 posts.

Mary, I am new here, a friend suggested this forum. But I got into this profession just during the dotcom debacle. I am working with SEO firms mainly and never tried to sell them earlier. Do you know a place where I can sell them for a better price? :)

I charge $10 for each 500 words document. I think this is a fair rate for a unique document and the time spend.

I charge $5 for 200 words, $12 for 500, but I also have packages where I will give discounts for a greater number of articles.
I think quality is important, as well as affordability.

I charge anywhere from $0.08 - $0.12 per word for articles. This breaks down to $40-$60 per article. I have been known to write for less, but only for clients I've had for a long time. I normally base rewriting projects and other "odd" jobs on my hourly rate which is $50/hr.

Those of you who've mentioned you'd like to raise your rates, please visit us at www.allfreelancing.com to see opportunities for much higher paying gigs and advice on how to begin raising rates to a level you probably deserve.

    Thanks!

i charge pounds 50 at a minimum, i wouldn't work for anything less because i could utilize my time in more profitable pursuits elsewhere. A 1000 word article would cost you that much; the cost usually rises for more complicated work.

I don't charge by number of words though; more complicated, longer work is charged by the hour. A 2000 word in depth article could even cost you 300 pounds(instead of 100) if it involved a lot of research or innovation.

The most basic way (besides arbitrarily picking a number)

    1. Figure out your base salary
    2. Divide it by 52
    3. Divide that by the number of hours you plan to spend writing each week (hint: it will be less than 40). That's your hourly rate.
    4. Decide how many 500 word articles you will (not can) write in 1 hour
    5. Divide your hourly rate by by the number of 500 word articles you'll write per hour
    6. Finally divide that number by 500. That's your per word rate.
    ------
    Example
    1. I want to make $35,000 per year
    2. $35,000 / 52 ~ $674 per week
    3. I plan to write for 20 hours a week. $674 / 20 ~ $34
    4. I will write 2 500 word articles per hour.
    5. $34 / 2 = $17 (per 500 word article)
    6. $17 / 500 = $.034/word

Of course, making the salary in my example is contingent upon consistently writing 40 500-word articles each week at that rate.

    latoya,

i disagree with the word-based approach because it doesn't take into account

    i. the quality of the work
ii. the intensity of your effort
iii. the research you put in

that's why i charge based on the amount and nature of work required to write a particular piece. i view it as architecture... you have to build your article and charge according to the material utilized :)
