I just finished making a website for a roofing company, but I dont know how much to charge them, the site has 6 pages and a about 8 pictures, I was thinking 300-500 dollars, dont want to overcharge them but dont want to give my work away either, what would be a good price? btw I live in the US.

A good way to determine that is by assessing your own work. If you are just starting off, think about how long it took you to do the website. How good does the website seen compared to others? How long would a professional designer have taken to make something similar? For example it might have taken you ten hours to finish the site, but if a professional designer could do it in two hours, it's not fair that you should be paid for 10 hours at a professional's rate.

Remember that for things like trades such as roofing, a lot of their customers don't come from websites, it's word of mouth and local ads for the most part. Unless they plan to do online advertising (which they probably aren't), having a website is usually just a way of putting up contact info, pricing, rates, pictures etc, not to actually attract people to their business. This means that while they do want your work, it's probably only complementary to their business. If you're also starting off, sometimes it's better just try not to take advantage of people, you never know, if you have a good price they might refer you to friends and create more business for yourself.

Another good way of starting off is to offer them two options: a flat fee just for the site design/files or offer a full-service site if they don't have hosting or don't know how to run a website. This means that instead of charging them 300$-500$ one-time to do a site, charge them less, say 100$-200$ maximum for a basic site. However, you tell them that you'll host the site for them, and make minor changes such as text/picture changes/new updates for a price of 100$-200$ per year. So, you might get a little less up front (maybe only 250$ for example), but if they honestly have no clue how to run a website, they will stay with you for sure, and you will be getting yearly payments from them for a very small amount of work, so more money in the long run.

Charging for the first website could be quite difficult. Thanks kardus for breaking it down.

Let me know about the website. Is it static or Dynamic? If this is Dynamic you can charge around $250.

I think about $200 or $250 would be pretty reasonable as $300 seems expensive to me.

I also think around $200 is good. But I think it's much better if you agreed with a price first before you did the job.
