How much to charge for data entry work?

    Someone just offered me some data entry work. Wondering how much i should charge him. How much do you guys charge usually?

    Just a guess, but I would say $8/hour minimum.

    You better be damn efficient to expect that kind of money.

    Remember that this is unskilled labour so you're competing with people from all over the world who would be happy to make $8 a day.

    I'd suggest checking eLance for price ranges. It really depends upon what type data entry work you have, too: ex: if they are doing research and calls, etc.

    Plus test small portions, first. Some people in other countries tend to type in all caps, for instance, making Excel docs a pain to merge. So you need to edit fields and / or revise entries somehow.

    And others have listed complete names in one cell when you need first and last split up, etc. Plus missed deadlines can come up.

    ...So make sure to start small, give good instructions and even examples, and test around some.

    Date entry work rate is different in different types of data project.
