It all depends, nobody can really ever know exactly what Google does or how many times they index your site, keep pinging it and post relevant keyword rich content to get it crawled more and more.

 

If you ping it will Google automatically index your website assuming it is very new? Because I thought it takes weeks in order for Google to check it.

At the beginning you need to submit your website to google webmasters, along with xml sitemap of your website. In few days your site will get indexed and then later when you regularly post content in your website, google will automatically crawl them.

 

It depends on the content and to the quality of your site as well.
