If there is very little competition you could get a decent position and keep it in very little time. Other long tail keywords are competitive because they are very profitable, and that will of course require more time and effort. Its really not possible to give a good answer with so little information.

No exact answer, study your competition and competitors first. Check their backlinks browse their Website, then you will be able to estimate the time and effort. Remember, your competitors are also doing SEO. If your competing against authoritative and big sites then it would be very difficult to land at the top unless you outdo their SEO activities.

It really depends on the niche and the keyword competition. I would say you need atleast 5-6 months of optimization to get a good, if not a stable, ranking in Google.

It depends on the volume of competition for the keywords you are targeting. Some keywords are easier to rank for because their competition is lower.

by "stable" do you mean high position? like everyone has said, this depends on the level of competition for your keyword. for low competition keywords you can get top positions within a month or two, but for more competitive keywords it can take much longer.

but if you mean "stable" as in a steady position that does not move around, then that rarely ever happens! search engines will constantly re-evaluate your site and it's backlinks, and move you up and down regularly. it is quite normal for your positions to go up and down

The position is always up and down due to the competition from other webmasters

Depending upon back links, relevancy and the way the site is popularized a stable position can be sought within 3 months of the sites existence with relevant articles / web pages. It first boils down to relevancy, then to backlinks, the type of backlinks, social promotion etc etc . Many factors get considered, If one is not taking proper steps then it may never get a search engine rank. Not entire web is indexed, experts differ upon the percentage of sites and content that is indexed by Google so there is a reasonable chance that a site may just not get indexed ever and never ever would it get a stable or even a SERP.

the more long tail key you have, the more long time you get because the less more users query them :D

    It depends on:

    1. Your business niche
    2. Competition
    3. Strategies you've adopted to gain ranking

For a small site with less competition, it will take no more than one month to get on SERPs, but if the competition and your niche is tough, then you have to wait for 4-8 months.

Your site would never have that "stable" you wanted, our sites either. Google does always adjust their algo all the times, most minor some major. There is only plain way which most of us know already and...no magic bullet

    1. Maintain your site quality by add quality and unique content regularly. Keep watching for any kind of malware, iframe injection, hacking being done on your site.
    2. Find new incmoing links in a consistency ratio. If you site have 5 new links in current month but have 10,000 links in the next month then it looking suspicious of course. There may have some exception - if your site is news site and you have a big news that could impact on peoples thenit should be fine to get link popularity increased suddenly sometime.
    3. Since competitors need to be replaced instead of your site in the position "all the times", then continious work is a must to maintain ranking. If you stop you would be dead.
