OK, you make site , google bot index it, at first you got nice rank.. than you went into sandbox. Some think that high relevant PR links from trusted domains help you get from the sandbox, some don't think so. Some sites come out of sandbox for 3 months, some after 2 years, some never.

After you come out of sandbox you might ranked high, if you did proper link building.

This is how I see at the process?
    How do you see it?

The sandbox is not mandatory. I've got a site which never went in sandbox, and start ranking not to bad in the SERPs quite early and keep improving.

A small site, we few links but most of them were good ones (I don't mean good PR, but rather good revelancy, a very specific topic)

It will all depend on how competitive the search terms are. But ours has taken around 7-8 months to get a stable 12th place on google, 1st on yahoo and 2nd on MSN.

Mortgage broker site I did suddenly appeared on page 8 of Google after 1 year (virtually to the day) for a few decently competitive phrases. Before then it was all long tail type traffic only.

I'm currently working on link building to improve the competitive rankings - the first I've targeted is now bottom half of page 1 :)

This is not a link building pattern, this is just luck and naivety I guess :)

A small non-commercial site on a very small and non-competitive topic.

I just asked related web sites, small ones as well (and few cause there is not many of them) but here for a longer time so they had gained kind of authority. Plus a handful of specialized directories.
They put a link to my site, googlebot came and that's all of it.

But as say poslogistics search terms a really non-competitive.

What I was saying is, at least on a small scale, sandox is not mandatory.

yeah, good link building can help.
I got tired of thinking up keywords and having my site sandboxed for the competitive ones, so my CMS gave me the ability to dynamically create the keywords based on the content (lot of news on the site, so relevant keywords were important)

    Cheers,

    Robby

That would depend on your link startagy some links hurt and some help so if you only get good links you should be stable right away. Now if you don't know what to avoid you can find your site droping instead of moving up.

( I vote less then a week if your are a expert and have a good plan ) much longer if you are not.

I think that more then 2 years...as your website will stay in sandbox for 1-2 years... for a grate keyword
