How much time do you think Vista takes to copy 24 GB data

Recently I wanted to repartition the hard drive in my desktop. So I was saving all those important files to an external hard drive before I partitioned. But as soon as I performed the cut/paste function for the whole 24 GB of data with just 73 files, I was surprised to see the amount of time Vista showed

If I want traffic to my blog there are more decent and sophisticated way of promoting rather then posting it in DP and that too in a section where there is the least number of visitors.

And if you are aware of something known as a BUG then you will realize the importance of the post.

-ME-, I'm sorry but you really apeared as a fool with your first comment and it's not really wise to go and justify it. Aajay was speaking about a bug in windows's vista algorithm to measure remaining time of file transfer. I'm pretty sure you didn't read his post at least before posting your first comment.

    Server is down...

From what i can read from this topic, i can say that if you have millions of files throughout that 24gb of data, it will definitely take a while to copy over (USB or eSATA)?

it's about your external hdd most likely it's just your average external hard drive (I said most likely correct me if I'm wrong) and this happens with all OS, xp, mac, vista, etc. It is called an estimation but what windows does is it estimates while the files are transferring so it can say 300 days then itll drop to 26 hours then itll drop to 10 min, then go back up to 2 days, etc. In the end your hardware will determine how fast it will go especially your external harddrive I mean after all you get what you pay for.

It should only take around 100mins to copy that! You can copy a full film to your hardrive in about 15-20mins which is about 5gb.

I install Vista for the first time on my laptop and coming from XP, I must say copying files in Vista is a way slower than in XP.

But it is a bit weird what is happening to you as I also copy the files to an external disk drive and it took me less then 1 hours to transfer it back to my laptop drive. And the total size I'm copying is 62GB.

Some factor do play their part here especially the speed of your USB port and also your hard drive RPM.

I think Vista showing wrong time to copy that data..I recently copied about 30GB of movies from my DVD's to my external HDD with ram 1GB..

But I think type of the files also affects it since One time as i remember it took me almost 1 hr n 30 min to copy 350 mb of data containing a fully installed game 'Crazy Kart' having various file types like bitmap images(lots of),config files(many) etc. etc.and I think it *******... :)...

What were the files you were copying??
