100MB will be enough untill the forum gets BIG.
I got a forum with 150 members 4000+ forums and only wanted 25 Megs.

Yes 100 MB would be good and if you're going to use phpBB, make sure that empty the content of it's phpbb_ip table every month or so as it takes a lot of space.

and don't forget to turn GZip compression ON in the configuration panel if you're using phpbb

    I'm using phpbb - 740 members, 60,000 posts and I'm only at 48MB

You'd only need 100MB or so, but it purely depends on the bulletin board software too. phpBB, I find, uses less space while vBulletin and other major ones with more features use more space. If you have an arcade, the games, scores, comments, etc. will take up space. You can get pretty good amounts, like 5GB+ for low prices these days anyway.

100MB should be way more than enough for most forums.

The only thing to watch out for is large attachments.

If you plan on adding an arcade that can use up a lot of space too.

Yep, arcade mods save lots of things like comments, game plays, scores, champions, categories, game lists, etc. that build up your database fast!

I had the game files themselves in mind.

Those can run 1MB+ each. If you have a few thousand of them it adds up quick.

My flat files use up far more disk space than the mysql db.

siteground is worth seeing. they have some nice offers on their site. Speaking of that i think that 250 is the right space. Yep, it's a bit more but you never know when you'll need it.

Windows hosting is ok, but if you plan to run phpBB or vBulletin; I'd recommend Linux for that.
You definitely need a database for phpBB.

100MB is great, I've got a couple gigs for my forum. It's mostly bandwidth you want to supply your forum with.

I'm using 200mb for my forum.
Forum doesn't need much space, it's just the attachments and avatars that take up some place.
But with 200mb you can already have quit a lot of them.
Most space on my host is used for personal files, screenshots, downloads,... So not really related to my forum
Also, don't fall for those 200gig and 3tb a month for only $3 (or similar), it's overselling and most of the time bad quaility hosting.
Also no need to pay $20 a month for tons of space and tons of bandwith.
Better to find a host where you can upgrade when there is need for.

So personally I think 200mb space and about 3gig bandwith is more then enough to start with.
